Oak Bookcase

A commissioned project for a private client in Prague 2024. Leo Palmer Design undertook the whole process, from wood selection, processing to construction as well as design and installation.

The design was generated from a client requirement to store books of an unusual size, while also allowing for normal book storage.

The solution was to stack boxes of various relevant sizes in such a way as to leave negative space between them. These in-between spaces not only generate a dynamic composition but also act as standard shelves.

The decision to hand carve certain surfaces is an homage to the beautiful solid oak used  throughout the design.

The lighting can be turned on in phases: all on, low lights, mid lights or ceiling lights. This allows the client to change the feel of the room at will.
