Xylography
For my Masters degree in Furniture design I developed my own methodology. I refer to it as “Xylographic Furniture”. It consists of using carved woodblocks to produce prints (the art of xylography/woodblock printing) and then, with these same blocks I make furniture. My aim is to rethink how ornamentation is used on designed objects and to use it as a way to bring emotional value to a piece of furniture. It is also a deliberate departure from the minimal mass produced design which is so synonymous with consumerism.
